Boris joins G2 Esports as their General Manager
Mitch “Boris” Voorspoels has joined G2 Esports as their General Manager ahead of the 2019 LEC season, the team announced on social media. In addition, the team renewed the contracts of head coach Fabian “GrabbZ” Lohmann, and assistant coach and head analyst Christopher “Duffman” Duff.
The moves help G2 Esports prepare for 2019 as they have scored the biggest free agent move in the LEC with Caps’s arrival. In addition, they have bolstered their bot lane with mikyx’s signing, in preparation for PerkZ’s transition to the bot lane.
Considering the amount of roster moves, Boris’s presence is key to bringing some form of structure. If anything, his familiarity with Wunder and mikyx makes the coaching staff’s job easier. In the past, the 2017 Splyce lineup nearly upset G2 in the summer split quarterfinals as they lost 2-3, and Boris was behind that team’s resurgence. In 2018, he successfully transitioned to FC Schalke 04 Esports, helping them reach the summer finals.
Boris may be able to cover for some of GrabbZ’s weaknesses should the team need a morale boost. Beyond that, GrabbZ and Duffman have proven that they could use the roster to great effect in an upset 2018 Worlds semifinals finish.
The team’s owner, Carlos “ocelote” Rodriguez Santiago, said the following regarding the roster moves:
I’m delighted to have Grabbz and Duffman continue their journey with us to reach the top of League of Legends. They played an important role in our history making run this year and with the incredible line-up we’ve assembled for the LEC and supported with a veteran such as Mitch, I’m confident we can accomplish greatness in 2019. We’re ready to kick ass in the LEC!
G2 Esports may face 2019 with more serenity, although Misfits Gaming and Origen will offer resistance on their way to the top. For more offseason moves in Europe (the LEC), click here!
