Deus joins bbq Olivers as second player import in South Korea

Alexey “Deus” Zatorski has joined bbq Olivers as their second player import. In doing so, he became the first North American player import in the South Korean League of Legends scene. He is also the second Western import in South Korean League of Legends overall.

Deus reinforces the lineup ahead of its 2019 Challengers Korea spring split campaign. Previously known as rjsdndgod, he worked as a substitute within Gold Coin United in the North American challenger circuit. He also played within M19 in the CIS region and held a 2W-1L record there, showing good form on Vel’Koz and Zoe. However, he lacked playing time since participating in the 2016 North American scouting grounds.

His arrival’s repercussions on current starting mid laner Autumn are unknown at this time. However, its impact on the Korean scene will not be negligible, especially if he succeeds. Indeed, he is the first North American player import, and the second Western player import overall. Considering the precedent Malice has set at the 2018 KeSPA Cup, and considering the strictness of bbq Olivers’ recruitment process, one could put high hopes on the player.

However, the Korean Challenger circuit has never been one to be taken lightly. In fact, Griffin have set an unprecedented mark when they nearly reached the World Championship within months of qualifying from Challengers Korea to the LCK, and they looked extremely strong during the KeSPA Cup. Furthermore, the recent promotions of SANDBOX Gaming (formerly Team Battlecomics) and DAMWON Gaming sent MVP and bbq reeling into the Challenger circuit.

In addition, their current competition may constitute an obstacle; for instance, ES Sharks recently bolstered their lineup with former Jin Air Green Wings standout mid laner Lee “Kuzan” Seong-hyeok. Also, APK Prince and MVP may also contend for one of the top two spots alongside bbq Olivers. The top two teams would then move on to the 2019 LCK Summer promotion qualifier, where a bbq qualification would create history in the region.
