Fredy122 joins Team Rogue for 2019

Fredy122 joins Team Rogue for 2019

Former Team ROCCAT head coach Simon “Fredy122” Payne has joined Rogue, the team announced on Twitter. Rogue’s coaching staff thus obtains a well-versed head coach in the 2019 LEC spring split.

Fredy122 had been on Team ROCCAT’s coaching staff ever since he retired as a player on April 2016. Initially part of Fabian “GrabbZ” Lohmann’s staff, he became the team’s assistant coach in 2017. Following GrabbZ’s departure in Dec. 2017, he became the head coach. As a result, Team ROCCAT reached the playoffs for the first time since 2015 in the 2018 spring split. They also kept good form during the summer split, despite narrowly missing it.

Fredy122’s work with young talent was noteworthy. In tandem with Cody “Avin” Gerard and performance coach Urszula “Xirreth” Klimczak, he helped build team chemistry on Summoners’ Rift despite fielding a rookie and two talents with rocky results in competitive play. Indeed, Toer “Norskeren” Hoel Eilertsen, Martin “HeaQ” Kordmaa and Jonas “Memento” Elmarghichi grew throughout the season and made an impact.

The coaching hire is quite important, considering the hire of assistant coach Edward “Edward” Abgaryan. In addition, HeaQ and Mateusz “Kikis” Szkudlarek have had their names cited on Rogue’s roster, adding a seasoned veteran under the fold.

The hires of Fredy122, General Manager Tomislav “Flyy” Mihailov and (potentially) HeaQ would mark an indirect continuity between Team ROCCAT and Rogue. The hire of Anna Baumann as the Managing Director and General Counsel only helps smoothe Rogue’s arrival in the LEC.
