IgNar joins Schalke 04, applications open for academy

Lee “IgNar” Dong-geun has joined FC Schalke 04 Esports’ LEC lineup for the 2019 season. The team announced the news via Twitter, nearly completing its starting lineup.

IgNar returns to Europe after spending the 2018 season on bbq Olivers. The support played two splits in the LCK, but DAMWON Gaming and Team BattleComics relegated them to the Challenger series. Despite his playmaking prowess, he was unable to right bbq’s season single-handedly as a support — an impossible task for anyone.

Although SK Gaming had reportedly contacted him, IgNar lands on Schalke 04 as initially reported. A proven playmaker, he was a core element to Misfits Gaming’s rise to the 2017 World Championship quarterfinals. However, since the two teams parted ways, neither has returned to Worlds.

The player joins a lineup that is currently only lacking a support, although Andrei “Odoamne” Pascu might be having a layover in Turkey at the time of publishing. The roster currently looks as follows:

The team also opened applications for its academy roster, following the hire of Maurice “Amazing” Stückenschneider as its manager. If his requirements for an academy-eligible player weren’t clear enough in yesterday’s announcement, Schalke 04 posted an update with an image for good measure. The team also supplied an application form for prospects to follow.
