Kubz joins OpTic Gaming Academy as head coach
OpTic Gaming have announced that they have signed Kublai “Kubz” Barlas as their Academy head coach for 2019. In doing so, they close their offseason on a rock solid note.
Kubz is well versed with talent development, as he has helped many players achieve greater heights. Notable examples include Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen, Yasin “Nisqy” Dinçer and Rasmus “Caps” Winther — all of whom he coached on Fnatic (as an assistant coach) and Fnatic Academy (as the head coach).
The coach’s latest tenure was in Giants Gaming, where he coached a laid-back crew. Although Giants ended ninth in the LCS, the team’s growth was noticeable as Charly “Djoko” Guillard’s play improved and as Pierre “Steeelback” Medjaldi and Risto “SirNukesALot” Luuri developed into a solid bot lane. Although neither of these players will be in the LEC in 2019, they would be in the top tier of available free agents.
His signing follows a slew of hires OpTic Gaming have made for 2019. In particular, Joshua “Dardoch” Hartnett’s signing is the most promising for the squad, as he is LCS-ready. Should Kubz develop him (and others around him) even further, OpTic would in fact field a 10-man squad on a weekly basis.
Other Academy players’ development would also be paramount to OpTic’s 10-man vision. Indeed, Scarlet has shown signs of brilliance during his tenure in the European Regional Leagues and in the TCL in 2018, and his growth would provide relief for Crown should he need it. In addition, Asta’s development is still in progress, as he arrives from GG Esports Academy. All in all, OpTic’s Academy team will be as exciting to watch on a weekly basis as 100 Thieves’ in terms of development.
