Memento joins FC Schalke 04 Esports

Jonas “Memento” Elmarghichi has joined FC Schalke 04 Esports for the 2019 LEC season, the team announced on Nov. 25. In doing so, he returns to the organization, which he left before 2018.

Memento returns to the team he helped qualify to the LCS. In the 2017 summer split, Schalke 04 played in the Challenger series and reached the LCS qualifier. Later, he played the 2018 season on Team ROCCAT and reached the spring playoffs. In the process, he stood out as a facilitator for the team’s winning conditions — which occasionally involved him as a carry.

The move marks FC Schalke 04 Esports’ first player hire of the offseason. The team signed Dylan Falco to their coaching staff, setting a solid foundation on that front. The reunion of Memento and currently signed bot laner Elias “Upset” Lipp gives the head coach two solid assets for 2019.

Schalke may have conceded Tamas “Vizicsacsi” Kiss to free agency, but Maurice “Amazing” Stückenschneider’s absence is of their choosing. Amazing has publicly noted that he may not feature in the 2019 LEC spring split. He is also contemplating a switch to coaching at the time of writing.

Whether Schalke 04 fields a contender as they did in the 2018 summer split remains to be seen. As it stands, the rest of the roster is unknown at the time of writing.
