SK Gaming eyeing Pirean for 2019 LEC

SK Gaming are reportedly approaching Choi “Pirean” Jun-sik for their 2019 LEC lineup. Turkish media outlet Esporin was the first to report on the possible move.

SK Gaming’s possible hire would be momentous, as Pirean made an impression in the 2018 LCK summer split. The former NA LCS mid laner started 19 times (out of a possible 44) and nearly brought SK Telecom to the Summer playoffs. He also allowed SKT T1 to play away from mid when the meta harmed mid lane centricity.

Before joining SK Telecom T1, Pirean featured prominently on Phoenix1, Team Impulse and Team EnVyUs. As such, he has experience playing in English-speaking squads. However, in his previous stints, he relied on another Korean player’s presence on the lineup. He played alongside Kim “Procxin” Se-young on TiP, Noh “Arrow” Dong-hyeon on Phoenix1 and Nam “LirA” Tae-you on nV. Whether that means that SK Gaming would sign another Korean player is up for debate.

Pirean is the first name that rumors publically addressed regarding SK Gaming. The other name, Marcin “Selfie” Wolski, currently has a contract with H2K Gaming. However, since H2K are not in the LCS, he is seeking suitors in the league. Furthermore, the only unclaimed mid lane spot at the time of writing is SK Gaming’s, meaning that his alternatives would lie in European Regional Leagues.
